What is Cystitis?
Cystitis is a very painful condition that can cause discomfort and difficulty urinating. Some women have pain in their bladder and burning sensation when urinating.
What causes Cystitis?
There are two types of cystitis; bacterial and non-bacterial. Bacterial cytisis is responsible for about 50% of cases of cystitis and occurs when E.Coli enters the urethra. E.Coli is a bacterium that is able to stick to the walls of the bladder and in severe cases can travel up to the kidneys. Bacterial cystitis is normally treated with antibiotics.
Yeast can cause Cystitis
There is growing research that shows that non-bacterial cystitis may be caused by an overgrowth of yeast such as Candida Albicans. Candida is a type of fungus that cause many symptoms including cystitis, fatigue, digestive problems such as bloating and even pain. Many cystitis sufferers take repeated course of antibiotics but unfortunately this can have a devastating effect on your gut. Antibiotics will wipe out all your bad bacteria and also your good bacteria. This loss of your beneficial flora can then lead an overgrowth of yeast such as Candida. If Candida takes hold in your urinary tract you may develop cystitis.
The good news is that a few small dietary changes combined with natural supplements will help you get better and reduce any painful symptoms.
TOP 5 TIPS to get rid of Cystitis
1.Remove Sugar from your Diet
Sugar has a terrible effect on the immune system and will make it even harder for your body to fight infection. If you suspect that yeast is the culprit, you should stop eating cakes, cookies, sugar, maple syrup and anything that tastes sweet. You will also have to take out dried fruit, including dates, raisins and dried mango. Fruit juices are also full of sugar and so are best avoided. As daunting as this may seem taking out sugar is one of the most important things you can do. Why? Yeast loves sugar and every time you eat it, it will be grow and become even more toxic.
2.Stop Drinking Alcohol
If you are an alcohol drinker, the time has come to stop. Alcohol also dampens the immune system and will cause a yeast overgrowth.
Beer, Wine and all alcohol should be removed from your diet as they all contain sugar and yeast. If you consume alcoholic drinks you will likely find that your symptoms are worse.
3. Stop Eating Yeast
Foods that contain yeast will cause Candida to grow and may make your cystitis worse. You will need to stop eating bread, croissants brewer’s yeast and baker’s yeast. Soy sauce, vinegar, mushrooms, peanuts, and stock cubes are also out. Did you know that fruit juices that are not freshly squeezed also contain yeast?

Find a supplement that has 10 billion live organisms or more and remember to keep it in the fridge. Remember every time you take antibiotics all of your friendly bacteria will be depleted so it is important to replenish your flora.
Cranberry juice has been used to prevent bladder infections and urinary tract infections. Please make sure it is 100 sugar free. The Tannins in cranberry juice are very helpful in removing bacteria. You can also take cranberry in supplement form.
Blueberries are also beneficial for urinary tract infections as they also contain tannins and are able to flush away bacteria such as E-Coli.
