Feeling bloated? Read on for 5 possible causes.

Many of the patients that come to see me at my Nutrition Consultancy complain of various stomach troubles such as bloating, constipation, and general unease in their digestion.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms these are some of the possible causes:

  1. If you are extremely stressed out, you may be feeling bloated after meals. This may be due to you not secreting adequate amounts of digestive enzymes such as Hydrochloric acid. Often in times of stress, we do not produce enough digestive enzymes and are consequently less able to break down our food.

  1. Another major cause of bloating are food intolerances. Are there any foods that you are eating that are not agreeing with you? Foods such as gluten and dairy often can cause digestive problems. If this is the case food intolerance tests cab be very helpful in identifying problem foods.

  1. Have you been eating a high-sugar diet or having far too much alcohol? You may have an overgrowth of yeast in your system. If so you may need to change your diet and take some supplements to re-populate your gut with healthy gut bacteria.

  1. Have you recently been on a course of antibiotics or steroids? This too can cause an overgrowth of yeast and lead to digestivd problems such as bloating. If so you may want to consider following an anti-candida diet and a supplement plan to help you kill off the yeast,

  1. Have you been travelling abroad or eaten some undercooked meat and caught some parasites? These too can be causing your bloating. Consider having a stool test to see if you have any parasites.
